The statement by Buckley means nothing.

"With the benefit of minute hindsight, Saddam Hussein wasn't the kind of extra-territorial menace that was assumed by the administration one year ago. If I knew then what I know now about what kind of situation we would be in, I would have opposed the war."

His point is absolutely moot, inasmuch as no one, including GWB, had the benefit of "minute hindsight" a year ago, nor did any mortal "know then what I know now."

For all we know, GWB agrees with Buckley, though it would be a great disservice to our military (living and dead) to express such a view, nor would it accomplish anything positive.

Additionally, neither Buckley, Bush, or any other mortal can know where we would be today had we not gone to war. (Unless, perhaps, there exist parallel universes where our alter-egos made different decisons than we did and the consequences are being played out).
