Neo, The resident Mexicans may have adopted that name too, but the name originated with the Indian tribe. In the early days, there were a lot more Mexicans in Texas, than white, and most of them didn't like the rule from Mexico City any more than the whites did, and fought along side the settlers in the war.

Whoever uses it, because they are Texans, is OK with me. I have known, and worked with, a lot of people of Mexican descent, and all of them preferred to be called Mexicans. The one I like best is Margarito Sanchez, who was a full blooded Comanche, but was proud to be called a Mexican.
