Bush wanted to believe in the existance of WMD. This at best is an admission that Bush was not lying, or at worst is ambiguous. Whatever he wanted, did he or did he not believe in their existence?
He was in a position to get good intelligence or massaged intelligence. He chose the latter path. And he never said a word against those who gave him the faulty intelligence, an admission of sorts.
But when I look into his supremely simple, silly face, I can believe that he believed, after long prayer, short analysis, and no arguments entertained, that there were WMD (and it was, as Wolfowitz made clear, useful as a well of packaging the war), that there would be no casualties, that our path would be strewn with roses, that the canvas weather balloon trucks were WMD, that it made "no difference" that he went to war on wrong intelligence, that Saddam Hussein was an operative in the attack on our country, and that our Mission was Accomplished. Even now, he believes that he has made no mistakes, and that it's going very well indeed in Iraq!
I can believe that George W. Bush would believe anything, if it was packaged right by those who operate him.
I know he believed that Sweden had no army.
But as I said, one of Bush's prime influences and cheerleaders in this matter, Paul Wolfowitz, has as much as admitted publicly that the WMD issue was the one settled on to give as the rationale because it was a seller within the bureaucracy.
And there is a pattern of Bush's puppeteers manipulating intelligence, suppressing dissent, discouraging argument.
Ah, Dithers! so you change the subject to Kerry's wife. You must be quite desperate about your argument.
I'm going now, goodbye goodbye! Post some more excuses for Iraq and talk about Kerry's marriage some more now, why don't you? |
