This is a principle that relates to foreign policy. Right now your son or daughter does not have to go to Iraq if you are wealthy. Nor does anyone's son or daughter have to join the military if they are not wealthy. Wealthy people need to share in supporting the society that has given them an environment that has enabled them to be wealthy. A progressive tax code is one way of doing exactly that. The US tax code isn't really a foreign policy issue. A non-progressive tax code is also a way that wealthy people share in supporting our society and government. With a truly flat tax the rich would still pay a lot more then the non-rich. Should the children of wealthy families be able to evade serving in the military Yes, as should the children of non-wealthy families, and in both cases they can evade serving in the military. Tim
