Although hardcore GOPwingers remain in full denial or, at best, continued obfuscation, it was the French who introduced into the United Nations, the day after 9/11, the resolution to create a worldwide coalition against terrorism.
But Bush chose politics over substance and French Toast became Freedom Toast and French Fries became Freedom Fries, especially in the GOPwinger-controlled US House of Representatives cafeterias. You see, Bush had to fire up his base in order to rally for the war--at all costs keeping his support factor above the 50 percent mark was crucial.
Both France and Syria made very sensible presentations before the United Nations Security Council--America did not! Worse, in its bid to fix the deck, the Bush Administration was caught spying on the UN Security Council members. This issue, by the way, wasn't widely reported in America. But it happened! How come? And, more seriously, why wasn't this widely reported in America? With a free press and all, it makes one wonder a bit, doesn't it?
Bush's ultimate fallback position, once truth was discovered, was that Saddam had to be replaced with a democracy. Now, consider that were Iraq truly a cause meant for democracy, why weren't Iraq's public buildings housing Iraqi citizenship records immediately safekept? Instead, what public building did Bush's advance choose from ransack and looting? The Iraqi Oil Ministry building. Isn't this a bit telling? |
