Gary - Re: Currency Meltdowns in SouthEast Asia

I'm no big expert in this subject, but my simplistic view is that Thailand and other countries that have a major currency devaluation will inflict at least a short term disruption on PC sales.

When discretionary income is wiped out and life-supporting necessities are required (food, shelter), many people will find they can put off a computer purchase quite easily if they have to feed, cloth and house their families.

As for SOutheast Asia in general, China - Mainland & Taiwan -t are the big markets, and these countries have no experienced currency devaluations (at least that I know of). Since these represent the bulk of S.E. Asia computer purchases, Intel's CPU sales will suffer only minor problems in the short term.

Re: "what's your opinion of Cyrix CPU recall? Is this a death-knell? "

No - the real death knell occurred May 30 when they announced this 6x86MX Turkey. Cyrix was in deep doo-doo 3 months ago. This recall is just more doo-doo on the pile.

In case you haven't noticed, Cyrix has not had Fuchi-loving Innovations in quite a while.

National, in my opinion, doesn't give a hoot about the 6x86 junk that Cyrix has. NSM wants the MediaGX. Period.

Yousef has been back for several days - check the AMD thread and Jack Dlugach and Albert Solzhenitsyn's posts.
