ESI Announces Multiple Unit Order From TI-Acer for Advanced Memory Yield Improvement Systems

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Electro Scientific Industries,
Inc. (NASDAQ:ESIO) announced a multiple unit order, in excess of three
million dollars, for ESI's Model 9300 Memory Yield Improvement Systems. The
systems will be installed at TI-Acer's DRAM wafer fab in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan.
These new systems will provide TI-Acer with expanded capacity for producing
their current products with poly-silicon link structures, and the capability
to process future metal-link structures, widely used in the production of
advanced memory devices-64 megabit and greater.

TI-Acer Taiwan Testing Manager. "Their newest model, the 9300, will provide
our fab with the capability of next generation memory yield improvement using
the 1.3 micron laser and a larger repair process window."

ESI's Model 9300 Memory Yield Improvement Systems offer new standards for
throughput, yield and uptime performance. The Model 9300 is an enabling
technology for the next generation of memory fabrication. The system features
a patented application of laser system technology that operates at a
wavelength of 1.3 microns. This system offers memory manufacturers a much
wider process window and higher repair yields than systems using conventional
laser repair technology.
