When I first voted for Reagan, it was a big deal. I came from a strongly Democratic household, and had voted for Socialists, members of the DC Statehood Party, and Democrats in the past. But I had a strong anti- Communist streak, I was appalled at the drift of foreign policy Carter had allowed to happen, and I was beginning to move to the center on economics, so I ended up voting for Reagan. Everything that I had hoped for in doing so, and even more, came to pass. It was not an accident. I had argued that it would be so, so the causal connections were apparent to me. And yet a lot of people couldn't deal with it and admit they were wrong, so they made up ad hoc arguments which did not reflect at all what they were saying at the beginning of the decade, to explain away Reagan's achievements. Now some even have the chutzpah to claim to be conservative. It is very annoying..........
