Gventer's street fighting would appear to qualify him for one of the U.S. Army's most prestigious awards, the Combat Infantryman Badge. The award recognizes soldiers whose daily mission is to pursue the enemy, primarily on foot, and engage in close combat.

Close but not quite correct.
The award of the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is reserved for those who have an Infantry Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) who have actually engaged the enemy in combat.

The Medical Corps has the Combat Medical Badge.

I do not believe the Army will expand the award of the CIB to troops without an Infantry MOS. In fact I will be shocked if they do.

If John Kerry gets wind of this, he will be first in line demanding the award. If Kerry gets a CIB, I will throw mine in the trash.
