Thanks for the reply. But how does the claim "America fared better than England" (in the great depression) jive with the Industrial production figures from Kennedy's "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers"? Also, what are the indicators you would refer to when making this statement?

I'm certainly not arguing that you are mistaken, because I'm not particularly knowledgable in this area at all. Rather, I'm just genuinely curious to understand the conditions of the time. If you would be able to expand on your post further, it would be greatly appreciated.
