Pure tokenism. Powell now realizes he's been used. Condi was no way qualified and blew it on 9-11. Clarence Thomas was a poor choice. The GOP does this simply to keep from being accused of being a 99% white party. In reality, if you've ever been to a GOP fundraiser, it's 95% white guys with short haircuts, white shirts and dark suits. Very severe bunch.
