I didn't realize your Dad was flying a British plane. Are you British?

Here's the plane my Dad flew in. constable.ca He wasn't a pilot, owing to the fact that he didn't have his highschool diploma when they cancelled (thank God) the glider program he was in. High School grads became pilots, no-high-school diploma guys like Dad became navigator/bombardiers. They had a much better view than the pilots.

I know somebody who was with Doolittle over Tokyo in a Mitchell. He was a gunner, Corporal David Thatcher, played by Robert Walker in the movie "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo." imdb.com He's still alive and doing very well. Saw him last month. His son Gary was a WO helicopter pilot, killed in Vietnam.

Dad actually did become a pilot, and flew the second leg of three mandatory cross-country flights to be licensed just before he died in 1995. He was 83.
