Kastel, South China Sea-- now has a dozen or so countries/companies producing gas/oil there. China is only in one gas project joined with Philippines. Here is an article in Chinese. excitecity.com It comments on the complicated situation in South China Sea, and said it is in danger of being Balkanized. Five other countries besides China are claiming sovereignty for NanSha Group Island. China thinks after WWII when Japanese surrendered, Nansha will be automatically return to China. And there was no one bothering about it until 1960s when vast storage of oil/gas… discovered. So all of a sudden, every one wants it, including Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Viet Nam, and Brunei. And even India, which has nothing to do with South China Sea, also flexes their muscle in this hot area. Plus Singapore, the US, and Japan, you got the picture<g>
Hopefully, some effective renewable energy would be discovered before they start to kill each other<ng>
>> would Japan have enough ooomph to muscle out China ??<<
No I don’t think so, although they would probably want try<g>. Japan is not in the argument of South China Sea. The issue with Japan is in East China Sea and DiaoYuTai Island. China wants to talk, and Japan refused to talk. So who knows? Japan is much cunning than China in terms of energy preparation. Although they have no much resource, they have imported much more than they can consume now, especially coals, which is easier to store. They imported a lot of coals from China (China only stopped the export of coal since late last year or early this year), good coals from YangYuan Shanxi, not like most of the bad coals China uses, and buried them by their continental shelf, possibly enough for they to consume for quite some years.
The strategy of China being the world workshop is pretty stupid in my, as well as plenty of Chinese, opinion. All China sells for is that bit of cheap labor, while at the mean time, it uses most of its energy for the product consumed in other countries, especially the developed countries, and polluted its own environment which is so bad, God knows how many generations it will take to clean them up. These are not all. Internationally, China gets bashed for most of the problems: lost of manufacturing jobs in developed countries; high oil price; high price for other natural resources; more pollution and bad climate….
In Chinese, this is called "Making clothes for others". Hopefully, Chinese leaders are getting smarter, slowly bring itself out from this awkward situation.
Thanks for the link of The Globe and Mail. Interesting. I feel it is weird that why Canada is so insecure?<g> It is not like China is going in invade American continent or something like that. If the buyer were from the US or European countries, I bet no one in Canada will make a big deal of it. Everything will become different when it comes to China. Well, what can I say? |
