I have been an Ascend shareholder for several years now, and lurked on the thread for almost as long. Initial purchase at 5 second at 10 third at 41 and fourth at 46 recently. I will continue to stay long until management is no longer as prescient as they have been in the past with regard to ISP infrastructure requirements. So far they have done a remarkable job of anticipating large ISP requirements and delivering product to fulfill them. The following link is an example:

Notice that Ascend has already got State Department approval for all but five countries for their gear. Makes it a lot easier for ISP's to build global infrastructure. I also believe that some of the uncertainty in the networking sector of late is a result of ISP's evaluating new products (GRF, ATM and OC-xx Frame Relay) before significantly rearchitecting their backbones, hopefully with Ascend gear. This in combination with the uncertainty surrounding the 56K standard and more recently the 8k filing have contributed to the stock moving sideways for the past several months. In the long run the price swings of this year should prove to be excellent buying opportunities. It took at least 50 years to build the infrastructure for the railroads in this country, wiring the planet or beaming IP from birds will probably take at least as long. Don't sell the winners to soon.
