You are the one with the neat boxes, not me. "Shallow" is all in how you define it, isn't it? Giving up your life for your cause- well- is that shallow? If a US marine, who is under the impression that Iraq was involved in 9/11, gives up his life to "defend" this country, are you going to call his patriotism shallow? He is wrong- he is misinformed- but even though his opinion is not intelligent, and is in fact quite wrong, I wouldn't go calling him shallow. I think one can say the same of the 9/11 terrorists, if one wants to. Neat boxes- I see them everywhere, and lots of them in your posts- and you consistently ignore any nuance in mine- whether on purpose or by accident, I've no idea. Now I merely said Saddam has been called an infidel by many many muslims, and that is you could see him as a PR muslim, surely many muslims could see that as well. I am not a muslim; I cannot tell what an infidel is, or what a devout muslim is; I think all religion is crap, personally; but since I know my history, I know that muslims call each other infidel all the time- and kill each other for it (like Sadat, and the attempts on poor Rushdie). I also know that many muslims (often professing completely different platforms) claim to be the way the truth and the light- they can't all be right, but I'm not the one to sort out whose correct- not in the Muslim religion, not in any religion- as far as religion goes, it's all wrong, imo- but it's just an <opinion>- and unlike many people, I know it's just an opinion.
Neat boxes? Not for me. Infidel may be what you think you are- but I don't expect that all Muslims see it that way, I certainly don't expect that all muslims see me that way. They are not monolithic, anymore than Christians are. There are tolerant muslims, who are almost unitarian, and there are hardline muslims who are just like our hardline, nuke 'em all, christians. It's a funny old world. |
