China records PC shipments of 4.3 mln in Q3, up 15% both quarterly and yearly
Shanghai. (Interfax-China) - China's PC shipments picked up again during the third quarter of 2004. The Chinese PC market recorded shipments of 4.3 mln units in the quarter, a 15% growth over previous quarter and also 15% more than same period in 2003, according to new IDC research.
"There are a number of domains contributing significantly to the growth in China, such as the education, government, and energy sectors," Bryan Ma, IDC's Personal Systems Associate Director, told Interfax. "In addition, Lenovo's low-cost AMD-powered PCs during the summer sales season in China also helped the growth."
The small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) sector, according to Ma, is the only sector that experienced a slowdown in the third quarter, due to the Chinese government's tightened control on SMEs.
Lenovo remains the largest PC vendor in China with a quarterly shipment of over 1.16 mln units, representing approximately 27.1% of the total Chinese market. Founder was second to Lenovo and recorded shipments of 498,400 PCs in the third quarter, with approximately an 11.6% stake of the market. Dell was the number three player in China.
For the Asia Pacific (excluding Japanese) PC market, Q3 shipments reached 8.9 mln, up 9% quarter-on-quarter and 13% year-on-year. Lenovo, HP, and IBM are the top three PC vendors, with 131.1%, 10.0%, and 7.7% market shares respectively. interfax.com |
