BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhuanet)-- About 85 percent of surveyed Chinese technicians, engineers, and science researchers are willing to start their own businesses, according to a latest survey.
A nationwide survey on status of Chinese technicians was organized by the China Scientific Research Society in the period from March 2003 to August 2004.
The survey showed that 22.1 percent of surveyed technicians strongly desired to start their own business, while 62.5 percent said they are self-employed.
Junior and young technicians are not satisfied with their current status and they do not expect their situation to change dramatically in the short term, said Prof. He Guoxiang, an organizer of the survey.
"Although a large proportion of technicians are willing to have their own businesses, they are, in fact, not suitable to be self-employed," said He.
Technicians always have little understanding on market risk, nation's policies and modern enterprise management tips because they have spent too much time in labs, He said.
The survey involved 7,000 technicians in the country's 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
The survey classified technicians into five categories, including engineers, medical and agricultural technicians, sciences researchers and teachers. According to this classification standard, China has a total of 26.4 million technicians in 2002. Enditem
