I'm all for learning from history, but I'm more interested in that eternal question : "What do we do now?".
If we let the past consume us, we fail to consider what is in front of us and take the correct actions to fix it.
This is why, the choice has to be for the lesser of two evils, and as I said before, if Bush was running against Perfection, Perfection would landslide Bush.
But Bush is running against John Kerry and given JK's record, it would have been easy for JK to be landslided if not for the rather glaring tactical missteps of GWB.
I do believe that GWB has learnt from his tactical errors, and he must be seeking advice from those around him. McCain and Lugar and others will likely have some input and strength on the next four years.
I agree with Ed Koch and Giuliani. I do not believe JK will stay around for a tough fight in Iraq. I don't know how the US can live with the shame of another vietnam. Even if we survive, the malaise that grips the nation will take decades to wash away.
I believe like any other moment in history, today, some stand at a crossroad, not knowing which path to take, yet few recognize the crossroad for what it is. |
