Political parties never really die. If JK loses and congress stays in republican hands, as the radical left elements who hijacked the party lose elections, I think what is more likely to happen is that the democratic party will clean house and it will pull itself back to the middle.

I hope moderates such as Lieberman would have a large say in reshaping the party. I would also look forward to the day when trial attorneys, the hollywood radical left, and billionaire currency speculators do not dictate policy in the democratic party.

On the other hand, the republican's true strength is in the depth of social conservatives it has in people like Giuliani, McCain and Ahhhnold. Over the long term, only moderates can effectively govern the US, and this is an important lesson to learn regardless of the margin of victory for Bush.
