CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- xDSL, a family of high-speed access technologies that offers access rates up to 50 Mbps, will be widely deployed for business applications, according to a new report from Communications Industry Researchers, Inc., (CIR) a leading market research company based here. The new 550-page report BEYOND T1/E1: A GLOBAL STUDY OF ACCESS TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES, VOLUME TWO, also notes that ten years from now almost three quarters of the xDSL installations in the world will be located in the Asian/Pacific Rim region. According to Lawrence Gasman, president of Communications Industry Researchers, xDSL technology will be critical to bringing high-speed services, such as Internet access and high-quality video into offices around the world. "In many parts of the world the infrastructure will continue to be dominated by copper for many years," says Gasman, "and xDSL provides the opportunities for PTTs and private service providers to leapfrog over ISDN and give their customers a few Megabits per second into their premises. The new CIR study projects that there is a huge potential for selling xDSL equipment and services in the Asia/Pacific Rim and notes that by next year, this region will have almost as many xDSL lines in businesses as does the U.S. "Once xDSL use takes off in China and Japan," says CIR's Gasman, "the xDSL market in the Far East will go through the roof." This Report Also Includes xDSL use by business in Asia and the Pacific Rim is just one area that is analyzed in depth by BEYOND T1/E1: A GLOBAL STUDY OF ACCESS TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES, VOLUME TWO. Other areas discussed include: -- Other emerging high-speed access technologies including Hybrid Fiber-Coax (HFC)/cable modems, Fiber-to-the-Home/Fiber-to-the- Curb/Fiber-to-the-Building (FFTH/FTTC/FTTB), ATM, frame relay, and high-speed satellite and wireless access. -- High-speed access in Latin America, Western Europe and Russia. Detailed explanations of the regulatory, technological and business environments in these regions are provided in depth. -- Residential and business access. Many of today's high-speed access trials are aimed at residential Internet and video markets. This aspect of high-speed access is thoroughly reviewed. BEYOND T1/E1, VOLUME TWO also contains highly detailed forecasts of high- speed access installations in all the regions covered. These provide projections of installations, service revenues and shipments of both CPE and service provider equipment. In addition, this new report from CIR provides detailed profiles of almost 40 vendors of high-speed access equipment active on the international scene. As its name suggests, BEYOND T1/E, VOLUME TWO is the second in a series. BEYOND T1/E, VOLUME ONE, which was published last month, covers the high-speed access market in North America. The Table of Contents and Executive Summary for both volumes are available on CIR's Web site (http://www.cir-inc.com/reports/beyondT1E1v2/index.html). Each volume is priced at $6,000 separately, or $9,950 for both volumes. The report is also available in HTML and PDF formats.
