The best is to blow it when you find it but they didn't know what all was in there. Could have spread chemicals or bios. Guarding would have been nice but we don't know why they left. It could have been to save other soldiers.

Of course the tanks and arty that could have used the other munitions were long gone, never to return. The primo stuff the terrorists could use was already gone. Kind of like guarding the hen house after the fox got the chickens.
