The cross is to Los Angeles as the Liberty Bell is to Philadelphia. Trees are a religious symbol to some people. Most people however would not recognize them as such just as they would not recognize the liberty bell as religious symbol. Most people in America would recognize a cross for what it is. I think there are plenty of symbols that should be excluded from public forums which are not religious, for example the swastika, or depictions of an upraised middle finger. They unnecessarily create divisions and that harms the country. TP
