You don't know anything about those machines. The program keeps three sets of numbers and they are not secure. They can be accessed by modem and are to report the vote tallies. But the 2nd and third backups to the "official" tallies don't have high security and the numbers in them can be changed without anyone being aware. Then the "official" tally can be "lost" (system crash) and the backup (which has been tampered with) can be used in it's place. Newspaper headlines. Diebold machines crash often during elections but back up tallies saved the day. But no one will ever know if the back up was the real vote.
