At the end of the day, instead of fighting Bin Laden, mohammad Omar and Al-Zawahari, we are battling Al-Sadr, baathists and people we dont even know.

The above comment rings true. Especially the people we don't even know part hits the nail on the head.

Frankly, I don't think the coalition really even knows who they are currently battling in Iraq. With all the "no go" zones, and limited local intelligence and limited pre-war knowledge of Iraqi society, I think it is probably as much a mystery to the generals as it is to us.

I mean, who captures and executes 50 youngish Iraqis who's only offense appears to be that they just got jobs as policemen? Jihadists, Baathists, Osama's henchmen, Iranian infiltrators, roadside bandits? Israelis? That cult that killed themselves with purple shoes on in SoCal when that meteor came around a few years ago? I mean, who are these "insurgents" that would kill Iraqi kids trying to get their lives in order?

It's really, really hard to understand.
