When asked about any connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda, Rumsfeld said, "To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two."

cnn.com

But a short time later, Rumsfeld released a statement: "A question I answered today at an appearance before the Council on Foreign Relations regarding ties between Al Qaeda and Iraq regrettably was misunderstood.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Interesting what happens when high officials forget the party line.

So, Rumsfeld and the 9/11 Commission have not seen any hard evidence of Iraqi terror involvement.

Dick Cheney, however, sees the evidence as overwhelming. He also saw the evidence that Iraq possessed WMD as overwhelming. He was dead wrong on one, and the 9/11 Commission doesn't agree with him on the other.

These are not DNC talking points or split hairs. These are simply what the 9/11 Commission, Rumsfeld and Cheney have said on the matter. Confusing? Sure is. That's what happens when one tries to bend the facts.
