Yes it certainly is a shame.

Yes, a lot of insurance companies have become so greedy and think the public should bear the brunt of their own losses. Deductibles are based on the price of the house and oft times damages that have been caused by someone else are not even reviewed if they are below the deductible and in some cases the one that damaged your property has no insurance either.

We have a bay front property that the original house was blown away by Carla in 1962 and constructed by the owner and his four sons who told us when we bought it in 1969 that it was constructed to withstand 175 hour winds. So far he has been correct and our little home has survived better than anyone in the neighborhood. During one of our later ones, our telephone was the only one still working and we invited the neighbors to use our phone when needing one. We are like in a little compound and we four join together to keep our bulkheads in good repair. Really helps keep expenses down when getting rip rap delivered and hiring a back hoe operator to spread and level it. This helps all of us, since one of the young ones loves to do this and then calls us with our share. Our older son also helps him as he likes to run a back hoe and has two boys that love to fish and now uses the house more than any of us now and that also helps all to cut the expenses even more.

We have offered our help to those young people as we have been through a number of hurricanes here on the Gulf Coast and know a lot of things that can help them with their claims.
