skype.com 30,003,368 downloads. Another 15 minutes. So in 30 minutes, there have been 3,368 downloads, give or take a few. That's 6,700 an hour. Or, 160,000 a day. Or, 58 million a year, with a holiday on New Year's Day.
That's a LOT of users.
But, it's not as fast as CDMA sales. So, Skype has got some speeding up to do to catch CDMA, though a lot of CDMA sales are existing subscribers buying a newer phone with more tricks.
When the CDMA phones include the Skype trick, then there should really be some fun. I hope the QUALCOMM people are talking to the Skype people. They have a lot in common. Both wish to disintermediate the long distance carriers, and non-CDMA PSTN [public switched telephone network]. The CDMA carriers are after the same goal, though of course some of the CDMA carriers are also olde style PSTN dinosaurs.
