Ted, the 1st Amendment does not grant people the right not to be offended. Some provisions might be made to protect public decency, such as anti-nudity laws, but it's a sad time when the cross is considered just as offensive as, say, a Nazi symbol.

I don't have any simple, cut-n-dried solutions here, other than to try and increase the tolerance among average citizens. And one way of doing that is to break out of our ideological comfort zones. Vague answers, I know, but more pragmatic than simply wishing for world peace.
