Well, Sidney, it is very hard for me to understand why ideological Republicans would vote for Bush, because he is so NOT fiscally conservative. The statistic that I read somewhere recently that people who go to church every Sunday are the core Bush supporters makes sense, though.
I don't think America is a free nation anymore, really. We did not have a fair election in 2000, and this year people are being removed from Bush campaign events for mildly provocative acts like wearing T-shirts promoting freedom. My own suspicion is that Bush will steal the election if he doesn't win it otherwise. There is a lot more hostility in the general populace, too, regarding campaign signs being stolen and even a general uneasiness about expressing your political beliefs. For example, a Bush supporter tried to run our car down in a parking lot, I assume because we were flying two beautiful, fluttering Kerry/Edwards flags.
It is a relief that no one posts here anymore, because it is difficult to put a lot of energy into a thread unless you are there all the time, and I have developed interests that are hard to follow if I'm online a lot. There are good writers here who have more leisure time than I do.
I am older, but probably not a whole lot wiser. When I came back I read that post where someone said I had been sick, and have no idea where that came from because I have not been sick at all. But just getting older is traumatic enough! |
