Iceland is an interesting consideration for retirement -- not as brutal, weather-wise, as it's name seems to imply. Strict immigration restrictions saved her from the grotesque influx of culturally disparate hoards that now infest other countries of Europe.

However, I suspect the price of living, once you get beyond the thermal heating, may be a little higher than some other, more temperate, offshore retirement areas.

Australia; it's a thought to consider. I've been to New Zealand and it is fantastic -- Christ Church, Wellington, etc. On the down side immigration is next to impossible beyond middle age; and the cost of living is not as reasonable as some other areas.

Florida has many things going for it; however the summer heat and humidity are overwhelming. I crewed aboard a boat from Ft. Myers to Jacksonville during July -- it was Hell topside unless you were underway with an apparent breeze. Thank the Lord we had air-conditioning aboard. Now in the winter it's a different story.

I keep racking my brain, thinking, haven't we overlooked some out-of-the way paradise? The Falklands. :^)
