When you received the settlement money and the insurance money
It was my understanding the settlement was paid to BusinessWire to, well, settle. And that the "insurance money" wasn't paid to the defendants but was paid to their lawyers under the umbrella policy held by one of the defendants.
You're clearly saying that's not the case and are hinting that the defendants came out of that case with money.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Also, since now the thread topic is pretty solidly away from "the line", I'd like to weigh in with other examples of mixing money and SI friendship. One now, another later.
I know this is different, but it's an example that I sure is FAR from isolated of SI friendship leading to checks written.
Shortly before Edwarda passed away, a number of us sent money to get her sister up to the hospital to be with her and to, if necessary, settle her affairs. My contribution was $500. This was before the airfare wars were in full swing.
As it later turned out, there had been a rather strong falling out between Edwarda and her sister that I wasn't aware of previously. So we really weren't doing her any good. I did, however, get a very nice and sincere Thank You note from her sister, which made it worthwhile.
I'll bet a lot of money has changed hands between people who've met directly or indirectly on SI.
Once I get permission from someone, I'll post about an SI-friends investment gone good, or at least looking so far like it has. |
