Re: ...although anything Sharon does will gain US approval.
And that's the big problem! I always keep the French-Algerian war (1954-1962) in mind when trying to make out the Israeli-Palestinian conflict... and my hunch is that Americans will pay a BIG price for their failure to check their Israeli pitbull. As I once put it, "regime change" is not flowing from the US to the Middle East but rather the other way around: there's a Judeofascist feedback running out of the Mideast right into the US polity. For that matter, we've already witnessed the early signs of it: the Patriot Act, the Zionist Act, the West-Bankization of Iraq, etc. are all portents of what I've called "the Israelization of the US".
We have now reached a point where the US must pull off a genuine Palestinian state, not for the Palestinians' sake but for its OWN sake. As the 911 conspiracy tragically demonstrated, the US is to itself its biggest threat, that is, the far-right underground is a far more ominous menace to the US than Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad combined (just recall the "anthrax mystery"). However, out of fear of another civil war in the US, the US administration doesn't want to face it: all the enemies of the US are "ugly aliens" living ABROAD... Meanwhile, storm clouds are gathering over the US... Judeofascism is like a cancer, a computer virus that will eventually subvert and destroy the US democracy.
