U.S. wind industry to install 480MW capacity in 2004 By Stephanie I. Cohen
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Installations of wind capacity in the U.S. in 2004 will reach 480 megawatts, far short of the 1,687 megawatts installed in 2003, the American Wind Energy Association said Thursday. At the end of 2003 total U.S. wind capacity reached 6,374 megawatts, which represented roughly 2 percent of U.S. energy supplies. The outlook for 2005 is expected to substantially improve due to a one year extension of a wind production tax credit signed into law by President Bush in September that was allowed to expire.
