FYI, G* uses GPS, but it will be transparent to th end user. If you need navigation, buy a Garmin or a Trimble unit. I happen to own one of each, and Garmin makes a pretty good one for about $300.

I con't think mountains are going to affect coverage in the north as Maurice suggested, unless th gradient is approaching 100% (a cliff). Also, coverage will not drop off suddenly as you get further north. It will get more and more "flaky" i.e. come and go during the day.
