When kerry was fighting in vietnam, and then protesting the war, Bush learned to fly and then as with many reserves back then lost motivation. They were both in their 20s and what they did then has little or no importance today. You are right about the SwiftBoaters against kerry--they seem so lost and rightfully embittered. It seems clear to me that they have been used by the right because of kerrys post vietnam war anti war activities.
Where i see kerry as particularly weak is his 1991 bote against the gulf war, a war which he now uses as a template for how to make a war justified. Like Clinton and pre-9/11 bush he missed big time on the nature of the terror threat. We know bush at least understands that. The doubts about kerry being a pacifist and a legalist looking to treat terror as a law enforcement matter is troubling. Mike
