ION to Buy Dominion ION Storm is on the verge of signing a deal to buy Dominion from 7th Level, sources tell us.
We spoke with Bob Wright, chief operating officer at ION Storm, who confirmed that talks are in progress, but he says that no final deal has yet been signed. According to Wright, ION is also talking to its publisher, Eidos Interactive, about funding the acquisition. He believes all sides are very close to signing the deal.
"As of a conversation I had with Charles Cornwall [CEO of Eidos plc] this morning, we believe that we have an agreement whereby they would be funding it," says Wright. Eidos would help pay for both the acquisition and the development of the game. Wright also calls the rumored $2.5 million price tag on Dominion "a little high," though declined to discuss specific numbers. We expect a formal announcement on the deal shortly, possibly on or around September 1st.
The title in question, Dominion, is real-time strategy game, set in the same science fiction universe as 7th Level's previous G-NOME. The deal makes sense for ION Storm, as game designer Todd Porter, who started Dominion while at 7th Level, is now working at ION Storm on a game called Doppelganger. However the two projects would not be merged - instead Doppelganger would continue on track as scheduled, and ION's acquiring of Dominion for Porter to complete is contingent upon his also completing the first project.
Of the two games, Dominion is the furthest along, and is now currently in beta-testing. It could be available as soon as Christmas.>>>>>>
Is this good or bad for 7th level???
