Here's some information you might find useful. I've been trying to figure out why Bush has been doing well in the polls. Turns out many of his supporters are seriously misinformed: 75% of them think that Iraq either gave substantial support to al Qaeda (55%) or was directly involved in the 9/11 attacks (20%). This, of course, contradicts the findings of the 9/11 Commission.

Meanwhile, Kerry supporters are better informed. Only 30% of them have one of those two misconceptions.

Here was the question:

"Q16. Please select what you think is the best description of the relationship between the Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein and the terrorist group al-Qaeda."

There is also a report of their findings and a press release. They're under Latest Studies, under the heading The Separate Realities of Bush and Kerry Supporters:

Meanwhile, here's a relevant section from the 9/11 Commission Report:

"The reports describe friendly contacts and indicate some common themes in both sides' hatred of the United States. But to date we have seen no evidence that these or the earlier contacts ever developed into a collaborative operational relationship. Nor have we seen evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States."
