First of all, Saddam retained the capability to manufacture weapons of mass destruction
Let me start by being banal just for fun:
Duh. Bora Bora has the capability of manufacturing weapons of mass destructions. Mrs. Orcer's Grade 10 Chemistry Class has the capability of doing the same.
I have read every single word of the Duelfer report. It is full of conjecture and extrapolation designed to create a "scary" impression - sometimes well founded I will grant - but designed that way because the overwhelming conclusion one without biases gets from reading the report was that sactions and containment worked.
An example of the type of inane conjecture:
- Saddam kept his scientists = Saddam wanted to restart his program at any time.
Well, aside from being self-evident, what are the alternatives? Oh, I know, "Saddam executed all his scientists".
- or -
- Saddam asked subordinates how long it would take to develop chemical weapons once sanctions ended. One Iraqi chemical weapons expert said it would require only a few days to develop mustard gas.
I can create mustard gas in my basement in less than 2 days. Every single country in the world can do this. Ask Donald Rumsfeld - after all, it was him, and Reagan's administration, which tacitly approved of Saddam using chemical weapons against the Iranians, back in 1983.
Neocon, may enjoy trying to hold on to the inside of a giant, oil-covered slippery funnel, but the ever diminishing pool of inane excuses and justifications just don't hold up.
Can't wait for the senate inquiries to start, I am bringing the popcorn. |
