How about "three strikes and you are out permanently"?

Indeed that has an appealing simplicity, but as soon as I start thinking about a concrete set of rules I founder in a morass of questions:

- What if offenses 1 and 2 where long ago. Do they gradually age?
- Is there a statute of limitations?
- Can good contributions undo an offense? How many?
- Can I avoid becoming little more than a bookkeeper?

and on and on.... :o(

Participants exhibiting an appreciation of what we are attempting to accomplish here garner lots of points in my book. Don't laugh, but I have no trouble recognizing a serious and interesting participant. A serious poster is easily identified by the quantity of research and thought put into a post, and by the dignity and respect with which the post is submitted to the fellow travelers here on FADG. This means that I generally do not see eternal argumentation* nor a stream of simple opinion as productive or even interesting.

One thing the Internet has shown me: the world is awash with information, so much so that I must focus my attention or simply become an information dilettante. My goal in creating the Foreign Affairs Discussion Group was to learn a great deal more about International Relations in the Post-Cold War World by having a few people join me in distilling down the Incomprehensible Flood so as to sip the Meaningful Few. That's all. :o)
