It still beats me why you think so, but I have to run an errand, so I guess I will have to bid you adieu for now
I've noted that you have not ONCE challenged me on this, because you know its true, or you are too afraid of reality to go out and do your own research.
And, amazingly, you are always heading out for the day, whenever I bring the subject up.
So, once and for all....
FACT: Reagan did knowingly support Saddam Husayn even though he was perfectly aware that Husayn was gassing Iranians with chemical weapons.
Sources: Declassified original documents including memos and telex transmissions, US Department of State 1983-1984.
And the facts...
FACT: Donald Rumsfeld, Reagan's special envoy to Iraq in late 1983 discussed oil pipelines through Jordan with Saddam Husayn. Rumsfeld provided Husayn with a personal letter from Ronald Reagan "expressing support" of the United States of America.
FACT: The US was in posession of proof positive that Iraq had used chemical weapons against Iran, before the Rumsfeld / Husayn meeting.
FACT: Donald Rumsefeld did not once bring up Iraqi use of chemical weapons against the Iranians during the meeting.
FACT: State Department "hushed up" expanding trade with Iraq, specifically in the matter of *items for nuclear entities*, as they wanted the public outcry in 1984 re what was then public knowledge of Iraqi use of CW to die down.
FACT: The state department agreed to go ahead with shipment of materials to Iraq nuclear entities, once public scruitiny subsided.
FACT: The US Government rationalized the Iraqi use of chemical weapons , paraphrased "killing Iranians with bullets or chemical weapons, what's the difference?"
I'm sorry to disillusion, but Reagan gave tacit approval to what Iraq and Saddam Husayn was doing. The assertion stands.
Have a nice evening. |
