The South started out as agrarian culture and remained agrarian right through WW I and the 1920s

Southerners were not geneticly immune to heat or humidity, it was a matter of getting used to it.

Yes, but it was not conducive to the general population. It required people who preferred heat. Most of our early immigration was from northern Europe. Only a small portion of that immigration was willing to live in the South and I suspect they were able to acclimate quickly to the heat.

There is no reason that the South could not have had an industrial component to it's economy except that the institution of slavery made the agrarian sector artificially inexpensive.

I don't agree....slavery ended just as the industrial revolution started. Major industrial growth in the South did not start until after WW II and after Carrier invented AC. If someone wanted warm, they moved to the west coast where it was warm without the South's searing humidity.

The slave wages were in essence a subsidy, protected by the state for agriculture. Slaves were not suitible for the industrial work unless the southerners were culturally willing to educate them.

Exactly....in fact, the slaves were unsuitable for industrialization. Without the slaves, the South did not have the population base that could support large factories.

The one big separation of idea caused the two areas to evolve into different economies.

I don't know what you mean by the big separation of idea?
