I can't find the post where you and I were exchanging thoughts on this, so I'll reply here.

I think the issue is this:

The teacher should not be imposing it. The students should be free to express themselves, but the authority figure shouldn't dictate it.

I think you're confusing freedom of expression by the people, versus an authority figure dictating to people. These are different. A teacher is different than a student.
