The article goes on to imply that Solaris will be certified for HP Opteron servers and Dell EM64T servers.

Even if the certifications happen I would be amazed if Sun sees a dime of revenue from that quarter. I'd like to be wrong, but I doubt it.

Leaving aside HP's dubious future in the computer business, neither the current undivided HP nor Dell will lift a finger to support anyone who tries to integrate a system like that. Sun also has yet to prove how gung-ho they would be for that kind of customer--that's the entire point.

So the end IT customer would be risking a finger-pointing festival. No sane IT manager would want to be the guinea pig for yet another doomed go-round by a historical anti-partnership. If Sun can break THAT curse, then they really are the Red Sox.
