Self-serving nonsense. Millions of brave East Germans and Poles and Slovaks and Russians came out into the streets and said, "You can have our lives, but not our obediance." Millions of people faced the tanks with empty hands. They used the tactics of Gandhi. That's what beat the Communists. Reagan had nothing to do with it; he was safely thousands of miles away.

You forgot the Prauge Spring of 1968 and Hungary in 1956. The problem is that the historical context for this is that in every other similar attempts to say "You can have our lives but nor our obedience", Russian tanks have quickly showed up and reeducated or taken the lives of those who are not obedient and no amount of grouphug has helped. It only worked when the soviet system and will has weakened enough to allow more intelligent men such as Gorbachev to chart the proper course for his people.

This uprising of the people idea is a romantic notion, but very hard to succeed in near history --- from Prague to Budapest to Tiananmen, ever since the governments have all the heavy weaponry in repressive regimes, it has been difficult to make such noble ideas work.

Again, there is no historical precedence for your ideas working.

What happened to your grouphug ideology? Is the concept of "love your neighbour" only reserved for the politically correct and the jihadis, but not to those who question your ideas? Am I not deserving of your empathy? (g)
