The rejection of peace is so profound

I don't know whether you believe this or not, but SunTzu is probably one of the greatest pacifist of his time. Having written the Art of War, SunTzu understands war in very profound ways that his contemporary thinkers do not. Having this understanding of war, SunTzu was able to write about what essentially translates to Peace through Strength.

The american military does not seek war for war sake, that would make monsters out of them.

Not everyone who acts 'war-like' rejects peace, but peace is not something that can be obtained from a position of abject weakness, just as freedom is not something we can beg for on our knees.
