Bush Sr had a lead going into the 1992 election
he lost

each incumbent had erosion of support from economic stress
that is the key

Bushy, the Idiot Prince, has trouble on many fronts
e.g. economic stress, war with growing chaos and death counts, a divided intelligence community, isolated European allies, systemic distortion on economic reporting, clouds of suspicion on truthfulness on his lack of war service, prevalent smear tactics, and almost zero foundation of a record upon which to base his claim on re-election

polls are very imperfect
their value is less and less when economic stress is present
because economics dictate far more on the vote than is measurable
