Could Bush Explain the Death of 100,000 Iraqi Civilians?
If George W. Bush or any backer of the Iraq war were told that the US military action there has led to the deaths of 100,000 Iraqi civilians, how do you think they would respond? Might they point to the argument that Saddam Hussein had WMDs and had to be taken out? Nah, that doesn't wash any more. Would they say these deaths (of Iraqis) were a necessary price of security (for Americans)? Or might they argue that liberty and freedom don't come cheap? A non-spin answer would be nice for a change. Too bad the debates are over and the election is in its final days. Imagine Bush being posed this question: do you believe what you have accomplished with the war in Iraq--which presumably was launched to deal with a WMD threat that did not actually exist--is worth the lives of 100,000 Iraqis? Oh, to see him respond--or try to respond--to that. Perhaps he would mutter, "It's hard work, it's hard work."
