How do you know that private charities do better than government? Bureaucrats are bureaucrats, there are always scams and scandals and overpaid managers in the Red Cross and the United Way to name a couple of biggies.

As far as depending on private charity..boo-hoo. Those who make and have more pay out less as a part of their income than those who have less.

If you didn't expect a pat on the head (your reward along with tax deductions), you wouldn't go out of your way to post your 'charitable givings' on the net. The government should give the breaks to those who make less and would spend it to pump the economy...float ALL BOATS and not just the yachts.

THAT's EFFICIENCY.
