BTW, if you would require batteries as a storage for your energy then the cost would be even higher and so will the ROI. Being plugged into the grid makes thinks much easier and much "cleaner" on install and you can better load balance your demands as well instead of getting too little or too much to begin with. My system is a 2 2.5KW split redundant system from GE that each side feeds into an inverter that then feeds into the grid that nicely balances the load. On daytime, the meeter runs backwards as my excess energy is "stored" by the grid. At nighttime I get to use it back. Any excess and I get a paycheck. :)
