Drudge knows, but is deliberately not carrying the story. The story has been on the NY Sun in one form or the other since 10/13.
It's just too vague and undocumented to air at this point. Pure speculation, though I think it is worthwhile speculation. But speculation, no matter how good, isn't news.
Unless and until there is a statement from a member of the board of review or someone else associated with changing the discharge, no reputable media organization will carry it because it could boomerang against them. The NY Sun, a tabloid, is not concerned about these kinds of niceties.
Even if a smoking gun is found, it's too late, in all likelihood. Perhaps the right-thinking right-wing press has made a very wise calculation, namely, that to air the story now, without a very solid basis for it, will invite Kerry's campaign charges that it is a late-in-the-game cheap shot that can't be refuted, an argument that could hurt Bush. |
